Uptime / SLA

Uptime / SLA

SLA = Service Level Agreement

WHAT IT MEANS

How often the service is available, and what the vendor promises in writing.

Real example

99.9% uptime means about 43 minutes of downtime a month.

What’s normal

99.9% is common. 99.95% or higher for enterprise.

The India angle

Ask whether downtime from the telephony provider counts. It often doesn’t.

Questions to ask your vendor

  1. What uptime do you commit to in the contract?

  2. What happens if you miss it?

  3. Do you have a status page and incident history?
